Expressive Arts

Expressive Arts is a multimodal integrative arts-based approach that combines psychotherapy and the therapeutic tool of creative expression which can facilitate personal growth and healing. This approach is focused on trusting the process and a person who utilizes expressive arts is not required to have any artistic ability whatsoever, so there is a great deal of freedom of expression.

Learning to trust that the mind and body through creative expression will find a way to process and express difficult emotions while in the presence of a caring and supportive therapeutic witness is the goal of Expressive Arts.

Expressive Arts initiates the exploration of our inner world and taps into our imagination, body sensations, feelings, emotions, and our thoughts by shifting artistic modalities. These modalities can include imagery, storytelling, sound, movement, writing, journaling, poetry, visual arts, painting, drawing, photography, sculpting, drama, movement, play, and music.

Sessions are offered for teens, adults, and families who are dealing with issues such as:

  • Grief, loss, and bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Life transitions
  • Relationships
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Developmental challenges
